International Student Handbook: International Student Arrival Checklist

Welcome to the University of Washington! We are so glad you’re here. The following are steps to take to get checked in, registered, and settled in Seattle and at the UW.

__ Complete New Student Online Check-In. Click here to access the Check-In page.

__ Have your documents copied. If you arrive between September  and September 26, visit the FIUTS Greeting Table to have your documents copied. If you arrive before or after these dates, your documents must be copied at the ISS office, 459 Schmitz Hall. Bring your I-20 or DS-2019, your passport, and your I-94 (departure) cards to be photocopied for your student file.

__ If you are a J-1 Scholar, visit the International Scholars Office in Geberding Hall, room 239

__If eligible, complete an Insurance Waiver Form at the ISS. The form is available at:
http://depts.washington.edu/uwiso/stu/hi.shtml
If uneligible for waiver, purchase UW insurance.

__Get a Husky Card at the Husky Card Account and I.D. Center, on the ground floor of Odegaard Library. This card acts as your student ID, bus pass, library, and student account card.

__Complete your Measles Immunity Verification Form at Hall Health Center. You cannot register for classes until this is done. The Form can be downloaded at:

__Academic/Departmental Advising:
For graduate students: Check in with your academic department to meet an advisor and get assistance with registering for classes.
For undergraduate students: Check in at the Undergraduate Gateway Center and register for an A & O Session with First Year Programs.
Note: IPE Exchange Students do not need to check in at the Gateway Center nor attend an A & O Session.

__Create your UW NetID (UW Internet Identification) and open your UW e-mail account.

__Open a bank account.

__Obtain your Washington State ID or driver’s license, if you will be driving. You will need to obtain a copy of your SEVIS prinout to get a license.

__Look for off-campus housing, if you will be living off campus.
